Until financing of the ontology development is provided, no more updates are planned.
WHAT IS IT ?
A Java applet installed when the link to the browser is followed.
The installation takes a while and is followed by the download of the ontology in memory.
We advise it as a first approach to the ontology, reading the user guide is considered necessary if you don' want to miss half of the information.
WHAT IS IT ?
A web browser for ontologies developed by Clark & Parsia.
Clark & Parsia are in my eyes kind of geniuses who are at the source of many initiatives on the semantic web and also W3C standards.
I read somewhere on the web Parsia is looking for a study-mate to learn more about mathematics.
Wish that mate good luck, he'll have to be of a very high level when you know in what matters Parsia graduated already ;-)
CHARACTERISTICS
The hyperbolic tree browser:
- maintains an overview of the classes when browsing the ontology
- accesses the lexicon of the classes and properties (relations and data) via tool tip- and windowed text
- accesses the browseable taxonomy in an intuitive way
Missing:
- information on individuals
- advanced characteristics of properties
LINKS
A recent browser is needed.
Loading of the older Finance ontology version takes a few minutes (executed in a separate window)
WHAT IS IT ?
A Java script development that needs no installation.
Only the ontology has to be downloaded in memory.
We advise it as a second approach to the ontology, reading the user guide is considered necessary if you don't want to miss half of the information.

Since no federation of ontologies is supported, the documentation refers to an older version of the Finance ontology.
WHAT IS IT ?
A Java doc-like documentation in the form of html-pages.
There are 3 panes which allow browsing.
We advise this approach if one wishes to consult the full richness of the ontology.
Reading the user guide is necessary if one don't want to loose 80% of the contents.
The documentation is produced out of the ontology file by the application which makes the building of the ontology possible.
In our case it is Protégé, for owl-doc version 4.0. Information on the university of Manchester is found here
The version at the basis of the new developments is still used too: link to Stanford university is found here.
LINKS
Some parts of the ontology are still represented under the OWL-doc format but the generation is via the Topbraid suite.
The whole of the ontology cannot be documented anymore under this form since the ontology grew too big.
WHAT IS IT ?
A Java doc-like documentation in the form of html-pages.
The documentation is produced out of the ontology file by a servlet-application running on Manchester university's server.
This in contrast to OWL-doc where the html-pages are stored statically on our website.
We advise this approach if one wishes to consult the full richness of the ontology.
Reading the user guide (on OWL-doc) is necessary if one don't want to loose 80% of the contents.
Information on the university of Manchester is found here
The application has been developed with the co-ode project.
The execution of the co-ode project is shared by the universities of Manchester and Stanford.
WHAT ARE UTILITIES APPLIED TO THE FINANCE ONTOLOGY ?
Different smaller or greater applications which support the ontology development or the knowledge representation.
In the beginning ... there were only those tools and we are grateful towards them and their developers because they were and are a big help in their small field of application.
They (except Taxonomy and co-ode) refer to older versions of the Finance ontology because the new one takes too long to load (we took 1 hour as a max. over the internet) or there is no possibility to load.
