KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
The ontology is an information center on:
- exhaustive product descriptions and their inherent risks
- production processes and their risks
- procedures
The information has following characteristics:
- complete, thus constituting a thesaurus through:
• a lexicon of the used concepts
• a taxonomy, this is the classification of concepts with inheritance of
properties
• relations between concepts with role-definitions
- generic: thus adaptable to new products, production processes, procedures, involved parties, technologies, ...
but also new external factors are coped with, notably changes in legislation, risks, environment,...
- accessible to men and machines through:
• a uniform representation of the information which is universal as method
• different channels of communication. The one we choose is the most
open: web ontology language (.owl)
- extended intelligence: through the usage of "reasoners" we obtain more information than we have been putting in
- when production information (individuals) is linked to the logical model one obtains a knowledge base. With a knowledge base, it is possible to derive more information yet and check the coherence of the data with the logical model
- query possibilities to control the application of business rules,...
